So I've been here a little over a full week now. Its been crazy so far. My first weekend I saw a 4 wheeler accident where my friend gained a hole in her head and then her friend burned his legs lighting a bonfire. Needless to say I decided quickly that I would be sleeping through the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve. New Years Day my friends and I chowed down on some traditional SOUTHERN NY's dinner. Pork chops, greens, black eyed peas, etc. The following day we stripped the Jeep down and went cruising around the Island. We took pics at different town signs and drove alongside the beach stopping for good photo ops. We had lunch at Jeff's Pirates Cove near the bottom of the island. I wasn't too impressed but next time I'll get the burger everyone raves about! From there we went to Talafofo Falls which was breathtaking.
We took lots of fun pics and played in the water. It was like a great massa
ge!

(This pic is the view from the Gondola ride down)After playing in the waterfall we crossed the bridge and headed to the site where Yokoi a Japanese WW2 vet hid for 28 years after the war had ended. The relation between the Japanese and the Chomorro (Guam locals) was not the best so fearing for his life he spent 28 years living off the produce of the island and stealing chickens from yards. He lived under the ground with only a bamboo rug covering the entrance for his underground hideaway. The picture below will give you an idea of how he lived. What would freak me out is that he couldn't even stand up down there. He was eventually found by two locals while they were hunting. After he was found
was told he could return to Japan! He came back a few times to visit and tell his story. He passed away in Sept. 1997.
Also on our road trip we stopped to see an old lookout that was used to scout out pirates and war ships. We had to pose with the cannons of course. We also stopped to snap a pic of the Spanish Bridge. There are tons of Spanish contributions to the island. They even brought over some obnoxious wildlife we could have lived without like wild boars and brown snakes. Most of the snakes are gone now. They have traps to catch them all along the base fence line. Unfortunately the brown snakes had eliminated the bird population and other creatures before we decided to try to remove them from the island.

Hey! Welcome to Blog Land!!! You are going to love it! I like to look at it as an online scrapbook. Great pictures! I would love to be somewhere warm right now.
